Today was interesting. It started out like any other morning. Victor and Robbie got up and went to school and work. I got up with William and Jonah. We got ready and went out to the truck. BUT the truck would not start. Now you will recall that it died on a friend of mine on Tuesday. Wednesday, Victor bought a new battery. It is now Friday and the truck will not start again.
So I start calling people. I call the school to tell them that my car won't start and the kids are either going to be late or not come at all.
I call Victor and tell him what is happening.
Victor calls the shop that replaced the battery and they agree to come to the house to jump the truck so that I can drive it to their shop.
So, Victor comes home and takes the boys to school.
The mechanic comes over and tells me that he cannot jump the truck because it is not the battery. He pushes the truck out of the garage and tries to bang on the fuel pump with a hammer. He feels like this will help. After several tries, he then pushes the truck halfway into the garage and has me slam on the brakes in an attempt to flush the gas? Anyway, none of these efforts work and he tells me I will have to have it towed. By this time, the car is halfway in the garage. He asks me if I want him to push the car back in and I say no.
After he is gone, I decide that I do want the truck back in the garage so that I can take a shower and have the garage door down. I am alone by this point, so I decide to push my Suburban back into the garage. The guy did it and he was old, so why can't I? So I start pushing. And pushing. And pushing. I make some progress, but every time I stop, the truck rolls back into its previous place. So I decide to push it all the way out of the garage. I push, and I push and I push. I move the truck a ways and then it rolls back.
Then the phone rings. Now I am on the phone and trying to push my SUV. While on the phone, I decide that I will just lock the truck and lock the door to the house and take the shower. I am still on the phone and starting to lock the car doors. The locks are supposed to be automatic, but never have been since we bought it. I am walking around the truck locking each door. Then I realize ....wait for it....I HAVE LOCKED THE KEYS IN THE TRUCK WITH THE TRUCK ON IN NEUTRAL! WOW. That is talent.
I make another call. "Victor? I locked my keys in the car. The car is in neutral and on, not running, but on. I need you to come home and let me in so the battery does not die."
Mind you, Victor's job is 20 minutes away and this is his second time coming home since 8:00. He calls our friend who owns a tow truck service and he cannot be at my house until 1:00. Victor comes home and unlocks the doors and wouldn't you know it? He tried to start the car and it came to life immediately. It makes no sense, but I hop in and drive it to the shop. I called our friend and told him that the car was now running, but if it dies on Chenal, I will be calling him back begging AND crying for him to come pick me up.
I made it to the shop and they brought me home in the courtesy car. I finally get to take a shower. Ahhh. Victor decided to work from home for the rest of the day because - well you know, he had already been called home twice, why risk a third time?
The shop called and requested permission to run an $85 diagnostic on the truck. Permission granted. They decided that the wires to the fuel pump were corroded. Once they cleaned those off, the car started just fine.
Never a dull moment.
